Telecom operators driving force in regional economic integration: TMSS CEO

The operation of Tele-Mobile South Sudan (TMSS) in Juba, led by newly-appointed CEO Andualem Admassie (PhD), extends beyond business outcomes. According to Admassie, TMSS's involvement in South Sudan's telecom market is paramount for fostering interconnectedness between Ethiopia, South Sudan, and the wider East African region.
TMSS, owned by Ethiopian investor Aysheshim Teka, marks a historic moment as the first Ethiopian telecom operator in a foreign country. Admassie highlights that this initiative will not only boost economic interconnectedness between Ethiopia and South Sudan but also facilitate economic integration among East African nations.
As both Ethiopia and South Sudan are landlocked, Admassie envisions Ethiopia becoming the gateway to South Sudan. This partnership has the potential to strengthen import-export trade, enhance people-to-people connections, and promote business activities between the two countries.
MSS's late entry into South Sudan's telecom market offers an advantage, allowing the deployment of the latest technology and efficient resource utilization. With a team of skilled Ethiopian professionals, TMSS is poised to become a market leader in South Sudan.
In pursuit of this goal, TMSS has signed a strategic partnership agreement with ethio telecom to collaborate on international internet gateways, communication lines, telecom infrastructure expansion, and telecom services provision.
TMSS, currently the fourth-largest telecom services provider in South Sudan, after MTN, Zain, and Digitel, recently welcomed former ethio telecom CEO Andualem Admassie as its new head.
